“Where I come from is not a dreamland,” says Sahand. This Iranian-Dutch storyteller acknowledges there are many things wrong with the country in which he was born. But the country is so much more than the wars they fled: his father keeps the memories of the place alive by telling him about his grandfather, who was a bandit; about dusty roads where a goat herder came by every day with fresh milk; real life stories which seamlessly melt into stories of mythical heroes and fearful dragon kings. Sahand might never go back to his country of birth, but by hearing the stories and telling them to his own kids and all willing audiences, he shows us an exciting and lesser known face of his culture.

Sahand Sahebdivani offers an insightful, interactive workshop for the students who attended his performance; tailor-made to the age group and include themes like identity, storytelling and being a refugee. Note: extra fee for the workshop and the musician.
